-”We have been trying to reach you, please respond!”-

Looks like I better respond. Actually, I take that back. I won’t ever reply to something that shows up in my gmail spam inbox. I mean, it is kind of there for a reason. Oh well, I suppose.

Directory Submissions

Oh, wow. Now this one is ironic. First, the email:

Do you really know what it takes to quickly
generate high-quality traffic to your Web Site?

Listen up. I must let you in on a few insider *secrets*:

Instead of waiting months to generate sales on your
site, you can start gaining the hits you want right now.
Click here to visit our website

And now, the reasoning. I work for SEOwhat.com, so I highly doubt that this email that is only worthy of sending me a bot through SPAM of Gmail will be more capable of improving my submissions than an actual company, regardless of it being SEOwhat or not.

Tyler’s Grammar Lesson

Posted by Tyler | Posted in Fail | Posted on 26-05-2011

Grammar is a wonderful thing, isn’t it? I’m sure there are common mistakes that I do, but some just bug me more than others. Take the e-mail I got from a Jeffrey Barry today, for instance. It reads:

“i’m finally able to be in my children’s life.”

That was literally the entire e-mail. Now, what’s wrong with that? You may have pointed out the common sense factor that I really couldn’t care less. My thoughts are that if you had the audacity to leave your children in the first place, you probably aren’t the greatest father to begin with.

What else is wrong with it, though? You noticed I mentioned grammar. Well, obviously you should start a sentence with a capital letter, but that’s easily forgiven on the internet. My attention is drawn to “children’s life.” Now, if there are multiple children, it should read “children’s lives.” However, if there is but one child, it should read “child’s life.” The way that Jeffrey Barry has presented is inexcusable, since the sentence doesn’t agree with itself.

And that, my friends, is Tyler’s Grammar Lesson. :)

Battle.net – Spam Consistency

Posted by Tyler | Posted in Fail | Posted on 25-05-2011

Now, there’s a funny thing about the world of hacking. What is popular now is social engineering. Many people are easily tricked into giving away their information, whether it be credit card or login information, when someone assumes the role of authority in that specific situation.

For instance, there are multiple e-mails I receive from battle.net concerning my account. This happens probably because my Diablo II account is worth some cash, even if I did use a bot to level him up and farm equipment for me, but shhh. ;) Anyway, someone wants my account.

This latest e-mail instructs me to go to this site and login with my information to confirm it’s still active. However, if you’re very careful, you will notice the hyperlink doesn’t point to blizzard.com, but to a similar clone site, which is identical in terms of physical appearance. That, my friends, is the sign of hackers doing their dirty work with social engineering.

The consistency comes from it happening more and more frequently as I don’t comply. The funny part is, however, that I caught on to a key part of their tricks. The messages have done the following: asked me to login before I’m banned for suspicious activity, asked me to login before my account is deleted due to inactivity, asked me to login or my account will be locked, and finally asked me to login for the reason explained above.

Well, first off, I should have been banned or suspended. Then, I thought it was being deleted? If that’s not enough, I thought they were locking it? Oh, now all of a sudden they want to know if I’m still around? Interesting stuff, but you didn’t fool this time. I suppose growing up on the internet surrounded by hackers does have its benefits. :P

United Nations Lottery

Posted by Tyler | Posted in Fail | Posted on 16-05-2011

Yeah, about that. Basically, this email goes right to the “fail” category.

You have a confidential message from the United Nations, you have been awarded a grant sum of Ł950.000.00GBP.
ticket number 27522465896-532 with serial number 652-662 drew lucky number 7-14-18-23-31-45,
Please contact the Executive secretary on E-mail unclaimsdpartment@live.com
unclaimsdpartment@live.com or call +( 44) 703 1815 967 for more information.

As far as I know, the United Nations doesn’t handle lotteries. But I suppose I wouldn’t know, since I’ve never actually won a lottery. That being said, I don’t purchase lottery tickets, either. I also know for a fact that you don’t put your email address when you do buy a lottery ticket, though.

Even if I had somehow gotten drunk and bought a lottery ticket, how in the hell would I have managed to buy a lottery ticket in which the reward is in british pound sterlings?

Just in case you’re interested, the reward in US dollars would have been approximately $1.54 million.

Eww, Gross

So, today I’m not really sure how to elaborate on something like this. Basically, I got an email from a “Jason Fowler.” Great. The subject was “ew.” Okay, sure thing. The message… what message? There was no content to the email. Awesome.

Basically, that makes me feel so much better. Thanks for all that time spent setting up your spambot and forgetting to even put a message of any kind.

Always with the strange formatting and really no structure. Obviously set up to be ran by a bot, by they should really clean it up a bit.

WoW: No, Really.

Greetings,

Thank you for your attention in this matter regarding the compromised World of Warcraft account you are using. Unfortunately, multiple parties have contacted Blizzard Entertainment seeking restoration of the account in question. This message contains an updated Account Retrieval process, which will enable the rightful user of the account to resume their adventures in the World of Warcraft. The investigation will be continued by Blizzard administration to determine the action to be taken against your account.

That’s strange. I don’t even own a WoW account. In fact, I’ve only seen it played once at a friend’s house. And I would know if I’m paying for a WoW account. But I guess it all works.

Anika Wants to Hook Up

Posted by Tyler | Posted in Fail, Seriously? | Posted on 20-04-2011

Haha. Huh? Apparently, Anika wants to hook up for drinks and “maybe more.” Well, besides the fact that I’m in a relationship, I can’t drink, assuming she’s talking about alcohol and not kool-aid.

Hey, I’ll get straight to the point. Want to meet up somewhere? Get a drink and maybe more? Check my profile and lmk [(let me know)]

I mean, really? I realize that it’s the 21st century. I realize that perhaps the days of meeting someone in person, getting to know them, and then maybe going further given the circumstances may happen less and less. Facebook and other means may be more respectable given the right amount of communication and time to develop a relationship, even if it isn’t a true relationship.

However, I still find no place for prostitutes and/or whores (pardon my language) around. I’ve never understood just sleeping around, ever. Maybe I’m different than other people. Wait, I already know I am, but still.

With each day brings a new journey into the realm of the technological world, sometimes bringing me new and quirky things, but more importantly developing my experiences within.
